Cueva del Mirador: The New Settlers

Far from the Trinchera site and dominating the narrowest point of the valley between the Sierra de Atapuerca and Páramos del Sur (Southern Highlands), this cave was used as a corral and necropolis during the Neolithic.

Bronze andaxe found in the Cueva del Mirador cave.

The Neolithic levels have recently been excavated. Findings show that the cave was used as a corral and necropolis during that period and the subsequent Bronze Age.

This site is of extraordinary value for learning more about the life of the hunters and gatherers who came to Atapuerca 7,000 years ago in search of new territories in which to settle. In forthcoming excavation work, older levels, corresponding to the Upper Paleolithic, will be excavated.
